For Everyone Else:
If you are a writer or community member who would like to help support The Olive Writers' mission, we'd love to hear from you!

Who is eligible for The Olive Writers' Summer Camp program?

The Summer Camp is open to young writers who live in Morocco and who are 16-23 years old. Participants should have good fluency in either Arabic or English.

How can I apply to the Summer Camp?

Applications for the 2020 Summer Camp are now closed. However, please check back in early spring of 2021 for our next application cycle. If you wish, you may check the "Apply" page on this website for more information about the application process.

What do I need to submit as part of my application to the Summer Camp?

You'll find clear application instructions for the specific year to which you are applying, but as a general guideline, you can expect to submit a writing sample, a personal statement, biographical information, and an optional letter of recommendation.

How much does it cost to attend the Summer Camp?

Nothing! Thanks to the generous support of the ALC—Casablanca and though our partnership with the International Writing Program, we are proud to provide full scholarships to all accepted Summer Camp participants. This means that tuition, room and board for the entire duration of the program will be provided at no cost to the participants.

What if I don't live in Casablanca? Where can I stay during the Summer Camp?

All participants and camp counselors stay at a hotel just a couple blocks from the Summer Camp site in the Gauthier neighborhood of Casablanca. Accommodations are provided free of charge to all accepted participants.

What if I can't speak English?

No problem! The daily creative writing workshops are also offered in Arabic. However, participants who have at least a passive understanding of English may be able to get the most out of our wide array of seminars, lectures and other programming.

What if I write in Tamazight?

Please feel free to submit a Tamazight-language writing sample along with your application. While we're very excited that more and more young Moroccans are writing in Tamazight, we do not offer Tamazight-language programming at this time. However,  if you have fluency in Arabic or in English, we'd love to consider your application—and we're working on expanding our programming to include Tamazight in the future, so please stay in touch!

What if I need special accommodations in order to participate?

While we recognize that Morocco's infrastructure can be challenging to navigate for those with limited mobility, we are committed to doing all we can to make our programming accessible to all participants. If you will need special accommodations in order to participate, please let us know early on!

Can my parents come to the Summer Camp?

We'd love to meet your parents! They are cordially invited to escort you to the camp, take a look at where you will be staying and participate in the program's closing ceremony, but the Summer Camp is only open to young Moroccan writers between the ages of 16-23.
