The Olive Writers Summer Camp 2019

Summer Camp Location: American Language Center Casablanca, Morocco

To apply to the 2019 Summer Camp, please fill out the application below and email all application materials to no later than July 12, 2019.

We are very happy to announce the second edition of The Olive Writers Summer Camp in partnership with the American Language Center Casablanca. The Summer Camp, our flagship program, brings young writers from across Morocco together to spend six days at an intensive writing residency in Casablanca free of charge.

Participants will attend daily creative writing workshops (offered in Arabic or English), attend lectures by renowned writers, learn about literary translation and the publishing industry, revise and refine a creative project of their own, and become part of a dynamic community of fellow writers.

Who can apply:
  •  Passionate writers who are interested in developing their creative writing skills.
  •  Anyone between 16-21.
  •  You must be able to participate in the full 5-night, 6-day program.

How can I apply? 

  • Complete the application form below.
  • Submit the following application materials via email:
    • Writing Sample — 4-5 pages of original creative prose and/or poetry, written in either Arabic or English
    • Writing Assignment — 2-5 pages in response to the following writing prompt:
      • Have you ever looked at a photo and wondered about the story behind it? We have prepared an amazing collection of images for you. Please pick a photo that triggers your imagination and write a piece of fiction inspired by the chosen image.

    • Statement of Purpose — In 300 words, describe in English or in Arabic why creative writing is important in your life. Please also discuss the difficulties or challenges you have faced in your writing, as well as what you hope to learn at the program.
    • Optional — One Letter of Recommendation

Application Guidelines:

  • You must fill out the application form (below) and email your application materials to us.
  • All application materials must be received no later than 12:00 (midnight) GMT +1 on Friday, July 12, 2019.
  •  Send your application materials (a writing sample, the completed writing assignment and your statement of purpose) as a single MS Word document to
    • Both the subject line of your email and the file name of your MS Word document should be formatted as follows: "Participant's Full Name-Participant's City-TOW 2019 Application"
    • Please note that the writing sample (4-5 pages) and the writing assignment (2-5 pages) are two separate things.
If you write in another language in addition to English or Arabic, feel free to attach a sample to your application email. This sample should be provided as a separate document and clearly labeled with your name and the language in which it is written.

Plagiarism will not be tolerated. All submissions will be automatically screened for plagiarism. Applications that are found to contain any plagiarized material will be disqualified without notification to the applicant. If you are unsure what constitutes plagiarism, please contact us at

This is a fully-funded opportunity: Tuition, room, and board are provided free of charge to all accepted participants.
